DC Comics Joins ComiXology Unlimited

DC Comics is finally embracing subscription services. In a nutshell this means you’ll now be able to read DC Comics titles using ComiXology Unlimited, Kindle Unlimited, and Prime Reading. Characters joining the party include Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.

What Is ComiXology Unlimited?

Since the medium took off there have been hundreds of thousands of comic books released. This makes it tough to know where to begin when building a comic book collection. It’s not a cheap hobby either, plus you’ll need lots space in your home.

ComiXology Unlimited offers a solution. For just $5.99/month you can read thousands of comics and graphic novels. And because they’re all delivered digitally, they won’t fill every square inch of your spare room. And now, DC Comics has jumped on the bandwagon.

Amazon Welcomes DC to the Party

Select DC and DC Vertigo titles are now available through ComiXology Unlimited, Kindle Unlimited, and Prime Reading. All three of these subscription services are owned and run by Amazon, so we’re guessing Amazon wrote a big check to get DC Comics on board.

In its press release, DC states that “thousands of select DC single issues, collections and graphic novels” will be added to ComiXology Unlimited. Despite this, the price will stay at $5.99/month, with a 30-day free trial available to new members.

Kindle Unlimited subscribers will enjoy “a selection of single issues, collections and graphic novels”. While Amazon Prime subscribers will gain access to “a curated and rotating list of highly regarded DC and DC Vertigo graphic novels” through Prime Reading.

ComiXology CEO and Co-Founder David Steinberger said:

“We are thrilled to now include an incredible selection of DC’s vast library of Super Heroes and DC Vertigo titles as part of comiXology Unlimited, Kindle Unlimited, and Prime Reading, bringing an even bigger benefit to all our subscription members.”

Selling Your Comic Book Collection

This is great news for DC fans who subscribe to one of these services. However, this is another blow to bricks-and-mortar comic book stores. Maybe now is the time to cash in by selling your comic book collection before everyone else has the same idea.
