Square Enix has released a new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Remake. And while it’s only a 60-second-long teaser, it reveals enough of the game to get us excited once again. The problem is we still don’t know when Final Fantasy VII Remake will be released.
A Brief History of Final Fantasy VII Remake
We first found out about Final Fantasy VII Remake when Square Enix announced the game at E3 2015. Final Fantasy fans had been clamoring for a remake ever since the opening sequence had been recreated to show off the graphical capabilities of the PS3.
Since E3 2015, there has been very little news about Final Fantasy VII Remake. We know that development was moved in-house, but apart from that Square Enix has maintained radio silence. Probably realizing it had announced the game a little too early.
The First Final Fantasy VII Remake Trailer
However, at Sony’s State of Play event, Square Enix revealed the first teaser trailer for Final Fantasy Remake. The footage is prefaced with “Development Footage. Subject to Change.” but it should at least give us an indication of what to expect from the final game.
We get to see the characters we love and hate, with Cloud, Aerith, Barret, and Sephiroth all making appearances. There are scenes and locations players will be familiar with. Plus the reimagined versions of enemies you’ll encounter in the game.
The trailer also makes it clear that this isn’t a shot-for-shot remake. It is instead a modern interpretation of the original. The battle system has even been switched from turn-based to realtime to bring it up to (what Square considers) modern sensibilities.
Square Promises More FF7 Remake Details Soon
Square Enix has promised more details will be released in June 2019. The game’s director, Tetsuya Nomura said, “Most of the plans are already in place in the run up to launch, so please bear with us a little longer until we can release more information next month.”
Until then, we don’t know when Final Fantasy VII Remake will be released, what system it will be released on, or any of the other important stuff. Still, you could always play Final Fantasy XIV for free to keep you going until we hear more about the FF7 remake.
